People, weather, food, music and culture. Education, investment, property, tourism and more.
Bulgaria is a country dripping with undiscovered treasures. If your holiday time is best spent exploring or relaxing, Bulgaria has a fascinating history, landscape and peoples. A history of occupation, poverty, leadership, wealth and prosperity. Religious beliefs and a 'strength of people' with immense tenacity, warmth and determination. I give you Bulgaria.
People
Changing economics
The crossing point between Europe and the Middle East, Bulgaria has for centuries been a trading route peppered with all the legend and folklore you can imagine. Today, with entry to the EU in January 2007, the country and its modern day population is undergoing a change never before experienced by living generations.
It was only in1989 when the communist 'iron glove' was discarded and a glimpse of life through an open door to western European capitalism was experienced. Many young Bulgarians migrated to lands far and wide, and now, after a short 20 years, are all starting to see their motherland flourish.
Weather
Seasons of colour
Bulgaria has a relatively small selection of enjoyable, mountain ski resorts to the west and a 'cliff faced' rugged, 'golden sand' mixed coastline of just 300kms on the Black sea to the east. Between these two delightful extremes lies and an everchanging landscape of stunning lakes, rivers, mountains and lowlands. Four strong seasons throughout the year coat the Bulgarian landscape in a seasonal blanket of white, green and gold natural colours that change constantly with every mountain peak.
The warmth in the summer south eastern winds from across the eastern Asian lands contrast with the winter weather patterns influenced by the Alps to the north west of the Bulgaria. Between the winter and summer extremes Bulgaria crams in an explosive spring season and a rapidly changing autumnal period. For 365 days a year you are guaranteed a weather forecast that is "daily predictable' yet seasonally diverse.
Food
Organic and natural
It is this richness in weather that gives Bulgaria its vast range of fruit and vegetables that grow naturally (organic is normal) across all regions of the land. Add to this a wine industry that is just starting to become recognised and you begin to realise that Bulgaria, tucked away in the bottom corner of Europe actually has an unmatched mix of natural beauty and lifestyle.
Much of the food of today's Bulgarian family is still home grown. Of course there is now the opportunity to buy products from around the world in the new city stores and shopping malls. But the main diet comes from the 'supermarket in the back garden'.
Home grown, prepared with natural herbs and cooked in a traditional way, the diet of the Bulgarians is healthy and organic. An explosion of colour greets the meal table morning, noon and night.
